Must Have First Aid Kits For Construction Workers

When it comes to first aid kits it’s not enough just to have a general first aid kit, especially when working in construction when there is a higher risk of injury than other industries.

PCBUs must provide workers with adequate and easily accessible first aid facilities and kits as well as access to first aiders so that injuries can be treated immediately as a first response to help reduce the damage pre-hospital.

We would recommend having the following first aid kits available for construction workers:

Lone Worker Compact Kit

Anyone working alone should be issued with a compact first aid kit that they can easily transport with them and includes first aid essentials such as a triangle bandage, roller bandage, medical tape and wound dressing.

Vehicle Softpack Kits

If your workers are travelling from site to site then work vehicles should be equipped with an easily transportable first aid kit. This is particularly important if the site is in a rural area when wait times for emergency services might be longer and medical treatment centres are further away.

Wall Mountable Kits

Construction sites and site offices should include wall mounted first aid kits stored in robust containers that will protect the equipment from contamination or moisture. These should be located in prominent locations that can be easily accessed such as in the site office - more than one might be needed if it is a large construction site.

Grab and Go Responder First Aid Kits

Stored in an easy-to-carry responder bag so that the site foreman or first aid responder can transport them from site to site, these first aid kits include all the equipment needed to treat common construction-related injuries including trauma injuries.
